Summer Citrus SimmeR pot
Have you heard? The simmer pot isn’t just a wintertime practice. This is a wonderful way to cozy up any space, and bring a scrumptious, fresh scent to the home. I can’t wait to share my recipe with you, but first I’ll share some backstory. Some of you who have been following along on Instagram know that, after a very full season in life, I am on a self-appointed spending freeze. This basically means I am not buying anything that is not a necessity or a gift. I have been getting creative and using what I have to the fullest. Not that you are keeping score, but I am happy to say that I am doing great. I have hardly purchased a single thing outside of food! I can’t believe it! I even passed on an amazing, clearance sweater at a local boutique. It had fringe! I can’t stop thinking about it. I digress. Let’s turn the attention to my recent grocery delivery order where I found myself with some extra Clementine oranges. I also had an extra grapefruit leftover from our daughter’s graduation celebration. (We used them for a garnish on some beautiful, pink stemware. Dreamy!) Not wanting to be wasteful, I created this summer simmer pot. This is just one of many combinations that would add a flavorsome and gorgeous flare to the home. I’m taking in the goodness as I type this and it is divine.
Summer Citrus Simmer Pot
One whole grapefruit sliced.
Two small oranges or one large orange sliced.
Approximately six cinnamon sticks.
Tip: I tie twine around my cinnamon sticks to form a bundle. I have no idea why I do this except that maybe it’s because once I noticed the sticks had more life left and I re-used them in a second simmer pot. The bundle eliminates having to sort through the muck for each stick.
10-12 drops of lavender essential oil. (You could also use dried or fresh lavender sprigs. Wouldn’t that be so pretty?) I didn’t have any and the drops were so yummy.
Variations:
This would be so fabulous to sub lemons & limes.
Try subbing some drops of vanilla or a citrus blend of essential oils.
Fresh mint leaves would give this pot a punch of green & it would smell out of this world.
Praying that this is just the recipe to add a little more peace to your heart and home.
